Ruggvikknutane Habitat Forest
We welcome Ruggvikknutane as a Fossagrim Habitat Forest.
Ruggvikknutane is located in Åmli in Agder county, 100 km north of Kristiansand
Åmli municipality is inseparably linked to the beaver (Castor fiber), which is also clearly evident from the municipal coat of arms. It features a standing white beaver on a blue background. When the beaver was about to become extinct in Eurasia, two men from Åmli were central in saving the small Norwegian remnant population. Beavers were also exported to a number of other countries in Europe.
Åmli is a forestry municipality in inner Agder. During the sailing ship era, a lot of timber was harvested in the areas to build sailing ships and for ordinary timber export.
The project forest area includes forests, non-productive forests and mountain areas, and include biotopes for species as capercaillie and black grouse. Fossagrim and the landowner have agreed and committed to terms for an exclusive contractual agreement, which will secure continued and undisturbed forest growth, preservation of nature values and natural carbon sequestration for a minimum of 30 years. Ruggvikknutane will serve as a Fossagrim “Habitat Forest” and we are proud to present this opportunity as a Fossagrim preservation project.
