Stugudalen Habitat Forest
We welcome Stugudalen as a Fossagrim Habitat Forest.
Stugudalen got its name from “Stufra”, the old name for the river connecting Stugusjøen and Mosjøen in Tydal, located about 75km Southeast of Trondheim in Norway.
The area shows evidence of human presence from before 1500 BC, including findings of slate arrowheads, axes and fireplace remains. The warmer and dryer climate 3500 years ago attracted people from the coastal areas to the good fishing and hunting in the lush pine forests – extending at least 300m higher above sea level than today. The area has been settled with farms from the Viking ages.
The project forest area includes forests, non-productive forests, wetlands and mountain areas, and include biotopes for several species of grouse. Fossagrim and the landowner have agreed and committed to terms for an exclusive contractual agreement, which will secure continued and undisturbed forest growth, preservation of nature values and natural carbon sequestration for a minimum of 30 years. Stugudalen will serve as a Fossagrim “Habitat Forest” and we are proud to present this opportunity as a Fossagrim preservation project.
